I had another OB appointment this morning. He took my blood pressure it was low only 91 over 60 which is why I have dizzy spells. I must be careful. Also we got to listen for the heartbeat. He tried for about 5 minutes and could not hear it so he got a more sensitive Doppler and kept on going back and forth over my growing tummy. I heard all kinds of sounds but nothing that resembled a heartbeat and then all of a sudden there it was. This very strong thump, thump, thump. I was relived! I just smiled and closed my eyes and he let me have a good listen! My Ob is awesome! He said the heartbeat sounds really good! He then weighed me and I am up 3 pounds which he said is perfect. I don't know what my other doctor was talking about! He said I would start to gain a little more weight now that I am in my 13th week. He said it would average a pound a week but it may happen in spurts. That is good to know! I see him again in a month. I still can not get that strong heartbeat out of my mind; I wish I had it on tape!

I have been feeling pretty good. A little nauseous in the morning and before bed but that is OK considering I was sick all the time! I feel like I am eating everything in site and that I am huge but I did my weigh in last night and I only gained half a pound this week putting me at 152.5 for a total of 3 pounds gained! Not too bad for 13 weeks!
I read this on one of the pregnancy sites I go to a lot: parenthood.com "During the fourth month the fetus moves, kicks, swallows, and can hear your voice. By end of 4th month, fetus is 6 to 7 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces." Looks like my little pumpkin and I have a busy month ahead of us! It is so amazing that this little life was only created 13 weeks ago and it can hear my voice and moves! That is so cool! I am now talking to my tummy!
Everything else seems to going along fine. I have been really busy at work trying to hire someone to replace me when I leave in September or late August. I am very excited to stay at home for a year with our baby but I am scared to leave the job I love. I guess every soon to be mother goes through this. So yes, I will be taking the full year maternity allowed here in Canada. Our new apartment is great. We are completely at home now and do not miss the old really crappy apartment!
It looks like this weekend I may have to break down and buy some maternity clothes. I am starting to show and my jeans are getting tight! My tummy is all hard and sticking out. I am at that stage where people wonder "is she gaining weight or pregnant" but the do not want to ask just in case! I want to wear a sign that says "No I am not getting fat, I am pregnant!". I can't wait to wear those cute little maternity tops!
I can't believe how fast time is flying! We will get to find out the sex in 6 to 7 weeks! Yippee!!!
Well, I could go on for hours talking about hearing the heartbeat and how happy it made me, but I better not bore everyone!
1 more thing, I have created a baby photos page here!
Take care,
Wendy
Well, I ended up in the ER on Monday from a sharp stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen. I found out that I have 2 cysts that are causing my problems. One that is about 3 inches big and a smaller one. My OB happened to be at the hospital at the time and he came and saw me. He is amazing! He seems to care so much about what he does! I have only had one appointment with him (second one at the ER) and I already feel very safe and comforted that he will be taking care of me and my little pumpkin. Anyways he said the cysts might go away before I have the baby and if not they will need to be removed afterwards and all I can do is live with the pain. That is ok with me. I don't mind pain as long as I know our little pumpkin is OK!
But all of this did end in something good! I had to have an ultrasound! I was so glad that my mom came with me because Trevor was already at work in a different town. During the ultrasound the technician had to leave to answer the door for a moment and I said to my mom "Did you see her/ him?" and she was so excited, she said she / he was wiggling all around and moving especially when the technician was poking at my stomach. The technician then showed me just for a few seconds and I asked for a photo for Trevor. I only saw her/him for a few seconds but I was so relived! I keep asking my mom to explain what she saw! I am so excited to have seen our little pumpkin. It did not happen like I had planned, I so wanted Trevor to be there, but at least I got to so her/him and will see her/him again at 20 weeks. I see my OB next week to listen for the heartbeat and a check up. All I know is I need to come up with a better nick name than peanut! Trevor is calling it our little monster!
Well, I weighed myself again last night and I gained another pound. This puts me at a total of 2.5 pounds gained in my first trimester which ended yesterday. Apparently this is the better part of pregnancy, although I still have bouts of nasty nausea, heartburn and I am starting to get headaches! Also I feel like a whale. My stomach is sticking out! The part were there is no baby yet and there for should not be sticking out! I must be bloated or something! I keep getting on the scale thinking I am going to gain 3 or 4 pounds but nope! All I do is eat and then eat some more and it is not always good stuff! Sure I eat tons of fruit and can eat veggies again but I still crave pizza and hamburgers and fries and chocolate! Luckily my pants were a bit big to begin with so they still fit! Although I will need to hit some maternity shops soon! I can't wait until I look pregnant and not just fat!
I went to the gym twice last week for 30minutes on the bike and so far this week, I went last night and plan on going at least tonight and tomorrow night. Although I am exhausted! I am doing what I can.
Well I guess that is about it for now, I am off to see my awesome OB next Wednesday to listen for the heartbeat and to have a checkup!
Take Care,
Wendy
